Garlic cultivation yields high output value and good returns, and the garlic industry plays a positive role in increasing farmers' income and helping them prosper. In order to promote the healthy and steady development of the garlic industry and effectively protect the interests of the broad community of garlic farmers, in accordance with the provisions of the Seed Law, the Measures for the Administration of Crop Seed Labels, and the Measures for the Supervision and Administration of Quantitatively Packaged Commodities, and in conjunction with the requirements of Dali Prefecture Agricultural Office Document No. 100 of 2010, the Notice of the Office of the Dali Prefecture Agriculture Bureau on Strengthening the Management of the Prefecture's Garlic Seed Market, the following suggestions are hereby offered to garlic growers:

I. Reasonably select garlic seed. At present, the garlic varieties planted throughout the county are "Hongqixing", large white garlic, second-generation garlic, local garlic, and others. Growers should select varieties according to local conditions to ensure high yields and increased income.

II. Carefully identify the packaging labels of garlic seed. Garlic seed packaging should indicate: seed name, net weight, place of origin (specified down to each county), dealer name, dealer address and contact information. Growers should carefully check these when purchasing garlic seed.

III. Buy by weight at a price per jin. Pricing seed by the jin is the most reasonable way to set the price, replacing the previous practice of pricing by the bag.

IV. Understand in detail the cold treatment process for garlic seed. Cold treatment of garlic seed has a relatively large impact on improving the early maturity and the single-clove garlic rate. When purchasing, ask each garlic seed dealer whether they strictly implement the Technical Specifications for Cold Treatment of Garlic Seed in Dali Prefecture.

V. Ask for an invoice. When purchasing seed, be sure to ask for an invoice and keep it properly together with the packaging and labels, so that there is evidence to check if seed quality problems occur, and so that you can protect your own rights and interests in accordance with the law.

VI. Analyze the situation and plant according to your means. Since garlic seed was released from storage, its price has soared all the way, and up to now it has risen to 950.00 yuan/bag. The cost of planting garlic is around 6,000.00 yuan/mu. With high costs, the market carries a certain risk. It is recommended that all growers proceed from their actual circumstances and plant according to their means.
