Garlic "throwing small braids" phenomenon needs early prevention

In recent years, garlic has every year exhibited the phenomenon of “throwing small braids” due to various reasons. Scientifically speaking, this is the secondary growth of garlic, a major physiological phenomenon that affects garlic yield and quality, and it is also a problem of widespread concern among farmers in garlic-growing areas. In some plots, it can even cause widespread total crop failure of garlic, and its causes are relatively complex. As an agricultural technician providing postal services for agriculture, rural areas and farmers, the author now introduces the main causes and control measures as follows:

1. Select varieties suitable for local cultivation.

2. Garlic that has been treated with gibberellin cannot be used as seed, and garlic that has been treated in cold storage or constant-temperature storage cannot be used as seed.

3. Select large and medium-sized garlic cloves, sow at the appropriate time, and do not sow too early. As the saying goes: White Dew is too early, Cold Dew is too late, and sowing garlic at the Autumn Equinox is just right. Pay attention to reasonable close planting. Especially for plots mainly grown for garlic bulbs, plant appropriately sparsely to prevent excessively dense planting. And do not sow too shallowly.

4. Scientifically apply fertilizer and water to cultivate healthy garlic seedlings. In fertilization, stress "compatibility," that is, base fertilizer (decomposed organic fertilizer), biological bacterial fertilizer, nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and trace elements. In spring, apply an appropriate amount of nitrogen fertilizer as topdressing, and strictly avoid excessive (or insufficient) nitrogen fertilizer. Keep watering frequently with a small amount of water, such as combined with applying humic acid flush fertilizer and controlling underground pests (the effect of phoxim plus chlorpyrifos is good).

5. Prevent freezing injury, especially prevent the "late spring cold," and spray garlic-specific 2116 plus Evil Spirit as appropriate.
