Detailed Introduction to the Wanyu No. 10 Sweet Potato Variety
(1) Variety origin: This line was developed by the Wanxian City Agricultural Science Institute in 1990 by crossing Zhongzhaihuang as the female parent and 6511-88 as the male parent, with the original line number 813-17.
(2) Characteristics: This line has a large and medium tuber rate of 60%, and the tubers contain 14.87% starch, 2.32% crude protein, and 18.4 mg of vitamin C per 100 g of fresh tubers. According to field testing by the plant protection department, it is highly resistant to viral diseases and bacterial wilt, and relatively resistant to late blight. It emerges uniformly, and the tubers are round with yellow skin and yellow flesh; it sets tubers early and in a concentrated manner, and yields relatively high when planted in autumn.
(3) Yield performance: In the 3-year provincial multi-site trial from 1992 to 1994 (regarded as equivalent to the provincial regional trial), the average fresh tuber yield across 21 site-times was 1338.7 kg per mu, 2.7% lower than the common control virus-free Chuanyu 56, and 6.3% higher than the leading local variety; in the 1995 production trial, the average fresh tuber yield was 1267.0 kg per mu, 9.4% higher than the control Chuanyu 56, and 29.8% higher than the leading local variety; in the autumn 1996 production trial at 5 sites, the average fresh tuber yield was 799.9 kg per mu, 11.0% higher than Chuanyu 56.
(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for intercropping and double-season planting in mid-mountain and hilly areas below 1000 m elevation, and for single-season cultivation above 1000 m.
