Comprehensive Analysis of Key Points of Garlic Sowing Techniques
Garlic is an essential seasoning in daily life. In recent years, garlic has become a worldwide vegetable, and its price is relatively high. Now the garlic sowing season has arrived again. The following is a brief introduction to garlic sowing techniques for the reference of farmer friends.
1. Select good varieties. At present, the varieties planted more in our county mainly include Songcheng garlic, Songcheng white garlic and Cangshan garlic, etc. Songcheng white garlic is the preferred variety for export, and Cangshan garlic belongs to a mid-to-late maturing variety used for both scapes and bulbs. Select garlic seeds with medium size, few cloves, no mildew and no insect damage for sowing. Split-clove garlic cannot be sown.
2. Suitable sowing time. Garlic is a crop that prefers cool conditions. If sown too early, it will emerge slowly because it is still in the dormant period. After emergence, due to high temperatures in the early stage and excessive growth before winter, the cold resistance of the garlic seedlings will be greatly weakened, and in the later growth stage the lower leaves of the plant are also prone to yellowing and premature senescence. If sown too late, the garlic seedlings will be smaller before overwintering and have weaker cold resistance. In our city, sowing around the Autumn Equinox is appropriate. About 10 days after sowing, the seedlings can be complete. Before overwintering, the plant can have 5 to 6 leaves and relatively strong cold resistance.
3. Land preparation and sowing. Choose loose, fertile, well-drained sandy soil. Plots whose previous crop was scallion or Chinese chive are not suitable for planting garlic. After the previous crop is harvested, fertilize in time. Per mu, apply 500 kg of decomposed chicken manure and 50 kg of diammonium phosphate. After application, plow and rake level, and make high beds 10 cm high and 50 cm wide at the top. On the leveled 50 cm wide high bed, open 4 furrows 6 cm deep and consistent in depth, place garlic cloves at a plant spacing of about 10 cm, then cover with soil, fill the furrows level, and immediately water to settle the roots. The sowing rate per mu is 100 kg to 125 kg.
4. Cover with plastic film. Under normal circumstances, after garlic is sown and emerges, the air temperature and soil temperature have begun to decline. Covering with 80 cm wide plastic film can obviously achieve the effect of increasing temperature and preventing cold. When covering, first pull the film straight and tight and bury it in the soil, then break the film aligned with the seedlings, and hook the seedlings out one by one with a wire hook.
5. Spray herbicide. 2 to 3 days after sowing, use 50 ml to 60 ml of 24% oxyfluorfen per mu, add 50 kg of water, and spray evenly over the whole field. Note that when spraying, walk backward to prevent damaging the herbicide film in the beds and reducing the weeding effect.
