Liaofu 2006 is a new disease-resistant hybrid japonica rice combination bred in recent years by the Rice Research Institute of the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences by crossing a high-quality male sterile line with a premium-quality restorer line; it offers high quality, high yield, high efficiency and wide ecological adaptability. In Shenyang its whole growth period is about 165 days, making it a mid-to-late maturing combination. Plant height is 110-120 cm and panicle length is 25-30 cm; at maturity the panicles hang below the leaves in a loose-panicle type. The stems have good elasticity, and the basal stem nodes are thick and short, giving strong lodging resistance; tillering ability is strong and the percentage of productive tillers is high, with the number of effective panicles per 667 sq m (1 mu) generally

The number of effective panicles per 667 sq m (1 mu) is generally 220,000-240,000, with 120-130 filled grains per panicle, a seed-setting rate above 90%, and a 1000-grain weight of 26-28 g, giving a yield of 650-800 kg. The grain-filling period is relatively long, and the plants mature with green stems. The grain quality is premium, the grains are crystal clear, and the length-to-width ratio is about 2.1. The eating quality is good and can rival Japan's premium rice Koshihikari.
