It is understood that the Rice Research Institute of the Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences, through independent innovation, successfully solved the worldwide problem of hybrid japonica rice breeding, and was the first in China to establish a hybrid japonica rice breeding technology system and seed production system, raising hybrid seed purity by two percentage points and increasing seed production yield by more than 50% compared with the original technology. This fundamentally solved the problems of yield, rice quality and seed production that had long plagued the development of hybrid japonica rice at home and abroad, and made a major contribution to the progress of rice breeding technology in China.

At present, the Rice Research Institute of the Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences has become the leader in scientific and technological innovation in hybrid japonica rice nationwide. According to reports, over the past few years they have successfully bred 9 influential, high-yield, multi-resistant, high-quality hybrid japonica rice varieties, including 3 You 18, Jinjingza No. 2, 10 You 18, Zhongjingyou No. 1, Zhongjingyou No. 2 and Zhongjingyou No. 3.

The single variety 3 You 18 alone has increased the income of farmers nationwide by a cumulative 260 million yuan. At present, it has been promoted cumulatively over more than 2 million mu in Jiangsu, Anhui, Henan, Shandong and other places, becoming the hybrid japonica rice variety with the largest promotion area in China.
