Introduction to the new hybrid late indica rice combination Xieyou 963
Xieyou 963 is a new hybrid late indica rice combination bred in 1996 by the Crop Research Institute of the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences (postal code: 310021). In the Zhejiang Province hybrid late indica rice regional trials in 1998 and 1999, the average yields per 667 sq m (1 mu) were 516.35 kg and 466.95 kg respectively, an increase of 13.74% and 9.65% over the control Shanyou 10; in the 1999 production trial, the average yield per 667 sq m was 450.9 kg, an increase of 8.78% over the control Shanyou 10. The average whole growth period was 128.2 days, 0.3 days longer than that of Shanyou 10. Resistance identification results: resistant to rice blast, moderately resistant to brown planthopper, susceptible to bacterial leaf blight, bacterial leaf streak and white-backed planthopper. Tests of grain quality showed that its physicochemical indices were similar to those of the control Shanyou 10, among which five indices, including brown rice rate, milled rice rate, grain length, transparency and alkali spreading value, reached the first-grade standard of the ministry-issued edible high-quality rice standard. This combination has relatively strong tillering ability and more effective panicles. Its panicle type is relatively large, and its seed production yield is high. In April 2000, this combination passed the approval of the Zhejiang Province Crop Variety Approval Committee. It is suitable for planting in hybrid rice areas throughout the province.
