High-quality hybrid japonica rice Dianza 80 passes variety certification

The new high-quality hybrid japonica rice variety "Dianza 80", bred by the Yunnan Dian-type Hybrid Rice Research Center and the Gejiu City Seed Company, was approved at the fifth meeting of the fifth Yunnan Provincial Crop Variety Certification Committee.

"Dianza 80" has a full growth period of 171 days. Plant height 94.5 cm, panicle length 19.6 cm, total grains per panicle 157 grains, filled grains per panicle 115.2 grains, seed setting rate 72%, 1000-grain weight 25 g; leaves erect at seedling stage, tolerant to fertilizer, uniform growth; flag leaf erect, compact plant type, strong tillering ability; good late-stage ripening appearance; strong adaptability, good yield performance, and excellent quality.

"Dianza 80" was tested at multiple sites in 2004 and 2005 in Baoshan City, Weishan County in Dali, Xichang County in Sichuan, Luxi County and other places, ranking in the top three for yield and quality; from 2004 to 2005 it participated in the Yunnan provincial regional trial, ranking first in Luliang County and Songming County, and among the top in Jianshui County, Chuxiong, Wenshan and other places.

The grain quality was tested by the relevant department of the Ministry of Agriculture, and "Dianza 80" was one of two varieties among the 10 participating varieties that reached the national standard and ministry standard grade 3 rice standard.

"Dianza 80" is another new Dian-type high-quality hybrid japonica rice variety that was bred, produced and developed with strong support from Professor Li Zhengyou, former vice governor. This variety will strongly promote the extension and planting of hybrid japonica rice throughout the province.
