Three new hybrid late indica rice combinations including Shanyou 8548
Shanyou 8548 Shanyou 8548 is a new hybrid late indica rice combination bred through collaboration between the College of Agriculture and Biotechnology of Zhejiang University and the Zhejiang Provincial Seed Company. In the 2001 provincial production trial, its average yield per mu was 443.6 kg, a 2.17% increase over the control Shanyou 10. Results of the two-year regional trial: its average total growth period was 126.7 days, average effective panicles per mu was 197,000, seed-setting rate was 88.1%, and 1000-grain weight was 28.6 g; resistance identification results: moderately resistant to rice blast, moderately susceptible to bacterial blight, susceptible to white-backed planthopper and brown planthopper; rice quality test results: the comprehensive rice quality score was similar to that of the control Shanyou 10. This combination has a compact plant type, relatively strong tillering ability, tolerance to fertilizer and resistance to lodging, and good yield potential. Its resistance to bacterial blight is superior to that of the control, making it suitable for planting in hybrid rice areas throughout the province.
