1. Variety origin

Bred by the College of Crop Science, China Agricultural University in 1993. The parents are: Mujiao 78-595 x khaomon. Approved in Beijing in 2000.

2. Characteristics

Grown as a single-season spring-planted upland rice in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, southern Liaoning and northern Shandong, the full growth period is 130-140 days; when dry-direct-seeded after wheat in the Huang-Huai region, the full growth period is 110-120 days. Strong drought tolerance, well-developed root system, thick and sturdy stems, relatively lush growth, fairly strong lodging resistance. Plant height 100-120 cm, weak tillering ability, relatively compact plant type, leaves drooping at the base and held upright at the top, leaf color on the darker side. Panicle length 19-25 cm, spikelet number 100-140, seed-setting rate 85-94%, 1000-grain weight 26-32 g. Japonica type, excellent grain quality, grains large and translucent, good taste. Average yield 300-400 kg per mu.

Disease resistance: Resistant to rice blast and brown spot. During the grain-filling stage, some leaf sheaths on the upper and middle leaf positions sometimes turn purplish brown, causing premature leaf senescence, and it is prone to damage by rice planthoppers.

Quality analysis: crude protein 8.76%, amylose 10.26%, brown rice rate 78.84%, milled rice rate 70.06%, head milled rice rate 63.58%, chalky grain rate 24%, chalkiness size 0.5%, chalkiness degree 0.12%, transparency 0.64, gel consistency 88 mm, gelatinization temperature (alkali spreading value) grade 7, length-to-width ratio 2.

3. Key cultivation techniques

In Beijing, as a single-season rice, dry-direct-seed in the plains from mid-May to early late May; in mountainous areas, sow from mid-to-late April to early May.

Seeding rate 7-9 kg/mu, sowing depth 3 cm, row spacing 27-30 cm. Coat the seeds with an upland rice seed coating agent. After sowing and before emergence, use "Upland Rice Herbicide No. 1" 28% emulsifiable concentrate, or "Ding-E mixture" 20% emulsifiable concentrate, 250 ml per mu diluted with 60-80 kg of water for ground spraying.

Apply 15-20 kg of ternary compound fertilizer per mu as basal fertilizer plus 1.5 kg of ferrous sulfate and 1 kg of zinc sulfate as micronutrient fertilizers, or 20-30 kg of complete-element compound fertilizer. Topdress 1-2 times, with a total of 10-15 kg/mu of urea, or 20-30 kg/mu of ammonium sulfate. Irrigate (including pre-sowing soil moisture water) 3-5 times, 50 cubic meters per mu each time.

In the middle and late stages, pay attention to controlling rice planthoppers, rice grasshoppers and sheath blight.

4. Suitable planting areas

Suitable for single-season spring-planted upland rice in Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, southern Liaoning, northern Shandong and other provinces and municipalities; and for dry-direct-seeding after wheat in the Huang-Huai region.
