Israeli upland rice is a premium variety among upland rices.
Israeli upland rice is the latest improved upland rice variety introduced and trial-planted by the Science and Technology Association of Mudan District, Heze City, Shandong. This rice has strong drought resistance and strong lodging resistance; it is a new variety with high quality and high yield, with a whole growth period of about 140 days. Thousand-grain weight 27 grams, grains per panicle 130--160, average yield about 600 kg per mu, and high yield can reach more than 700 kg, and it saves labor and time, with benefits 2--3 times that of corn.
Sowing time: in North China it can be sown before June 15, and in Northeast China before May 1.
Sowing method: before sowing, plow the land deeply until it is level, finely harrowed, and free of visible and hidden clods; apply base fertilizer to ensure the soil is moist. If the soil moisture is poor, water to preserve moisture before sowing. Use a @#@245@#@ seeder for flat sowing, with a row spacing of 25 cm. Israeli upland rice is generally sown before June 15. (Wide and narrow rows can also be used, with a wide row spacing of 30 cm and a narrow row spacing of 15 cm.) The sowing depth must not exceed 3 cm. After sowing, press well with a roller. The seeding rate is about 8 kg per mu, and the basic seedlings are required to reach more than 200,000 plants.
Fertilization and watering requirements: apply sufficient base fertilizer, with more than 3 cubic meters of high-quality farmyard manure per mu, 15 kg of diammonium phosphate, 5 kg of urea, 5 kg of potassium sulfate, 1 kg of zinc sulfate, and 1.50 kg of ferrous sulfate. Mix the fertilizers evenly and apply them into the soil. 25 days after emergence, water if drought occurs, and topdress 10 kg of urea per mu. After heading, water if drought occurs, and topdress 5 kg of urea per mu. Water must not be lacking during flowering and grain filling; if drought occurs, water promptly.
Chemical weed control: use a dedicated herbicide for upland rice, 250 grams per mu, mixed with about 100 kg of water, and evenly spray the ground wet 3--4 days after sowing to form a herbicide film for closed weed control. Within 1 month after emergence, hoeing or tilling to break the soil is not allowed. If weeds or wheat seedlings appear, they can be pulled out manually in time.
