Introduction to the characteristics of the new late japonica rice variety Zhejing 30
Zhejing 30 was approved in March 2003 at the 27th variety approval meeting of the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. In the 2000 provincial regional trial, the average yield per mu was 428.74 kg, 0.12% less than the control Xiushui 63, not significant; in the 2001 provincial regional trial, the average yield per mu was 506.19 kg, 10.7% more than the control Xiushui 63, reaching an extremely significant level; the two-year average was 5.46% higher than the control Xiushui 63. In the 2002 production trial, the average yield per mu was 445.6 kg, 2.53% more than the control Xiushui 63. The two-year average whole growth period was 134.5 days, 0.9 days longer than the control. The two-year provincial regional trial average was 233,000 effective panicles, 82 filled grains per panicle, 91.6% seed-setting rate, and 25.7 g 1000-grain weight. According to the identification results of the Institute of Plant Protection, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, it is moderately resistant to rice blast and bacterial blight, and susceptible to narrow brown leaf spot, brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper; according to the analysis by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture in 2000, the brown rice rate, milled rice rate, head rice rate, grain length, length-width ratio, alkali spreading value, gel consistency, and amylose content reached the Ministry-issued first-grade standard for edible high-quality rice, and the chalkiness degree and transparency reached the Ministry-issued second-grade standard for edible high-quality rice. This variety is dense-panicle type, with a compact plant type, strong tillering ability, medium panicle type, and good yielding ability; in the late growth stage it has green stems and yellow ripening, relatively good rice quality, and better rice blast resistance than Xiushui 63. It is suitable for planting as late rice throughout the province.
Key points of cultivation techniques:
1. Seed disinfection: soak seeds with disinfectants such as Jinzhongling, so that the seeds enter the soil disease-free.
2. Timely sowing: for double cropping, generally sow around June 20 to 30, with a sowing rate per mu of seedling field not exceeding 30 kg; at sowing, thin sowing for strong seedlings is required, and seedlings with tillers should be cultivated. Transplant before the end of July, with a seed rate per mu of 3 to 3.5 kg in the field. For single cropping, generally sow from late May to early June, with a seed rate of 2.5 to 3 kg per mu in the field.
3. Reasonable close planting: transplant more than 25,000 hills per mu, with 3 to 4 seedlings per hill, and generally apply 50 to 55 dan of standard fertilizer per mu. Do a good job in water management and pest and disease control.
4. Timely harvest: appropriately delaying the harvest period can significantly improve rice quality.
