Introduction to the Fucong No. 1 Variety and Key Points of Its Cultivation Techniques
Through years of effort, the Horticulture Institute of the Henan Academy of Agricultural Sciences has successfully bred a new off-season Welsh onion variety - Fucong No. 1.
Fucong No. 1 is heat-tolerant and cold-tolerant, with a plant height of 1.2-1.7 m and a blanched pseudostem length of 60-80 cm. It has a delicious flavor and strong stress resistance, and its yield per mu can reach more than 5000 kg.
The breeding of Fucong No. 1 has changed the cultivation model in which Welsh onions can only be sown in spring and autumn, making it possible to sow them after the summer wheat harvest as well, with harvest in the following spring. This period is a market gap for fresh onions, with relatively high returns, and income per mu reaching as high as 3000-5000 yuan. When raising seedlings, Fucong No. 1 occupies relatively little land, and after the seedlings are raised, they do not delay the planting of autumn crops; after the onion seedlings are transplanted, they are harvested and marketed around Qingming Festival.
