Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Yangqie No. 1 Eggplant Variety
Yangqie No. 1 is an early-maturing first-generation hybrid purple long eggplant bred by the Yangzhou Vegetable Research Institute and other institutions. Since its promotion in Jiangsu, Shandong, Anhui and other places, it has won the affection of a great many users for its advantages of early maturity, high yield and good market quality. This variety has a compact plant type, a spread of about 55 cm and a plant height of 90 cm, short internodes, flowers and fruit set at 10 leaves, and a high fruit-setting rate at low temperatures, making it suitable for early-maturing close planting. Each plant bears 12-13 fruits, and can bear as many as 18-20. The fruit is 35-40 cm long with a transverse diameter of 4.5 cm; the eggplant is deep purple and glossy, with an excellent market appearance. The yield is generally 4000-5000 kg per mu in spring.
In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, seedlings are generally sown and raised in September-October, and transplanted into greenhouses in February-March of the following year. Apply sufficient base fertilizer in the field, avoid continuous cropping, with a plant spacing of 40 cm and a row spacing of 55-60 cm, and about 3000 basic seedlings per mu. Before harvesting the first fruit, remove the forked branches and old leaves below the first fruit. After harvesting the first fruit, maintain field moisture, apply water and fertilizer frequently, and in combination with pest and disease control, carry out foliar topdressing with 0.3-0.5% monopotassium phosphate plus a little urea. In early low-temperature periods, use 4-CPA (fruit-setting hormone) to dot the flowers, which can increase the fruit-setting rate.
