How should the water layer be regulated at different growth stages of shallow-water lotus root?
The suitable water level for shallow-water lotus root is 10-20 cm, and the maximum water depth it can tolerate is 50 cm. In cultivation, the water layer must be well regulated according to the different growth stages of shallow-water lotus root.
The general principle of water layer management for shallow-water lotus root is shallow at the front, deep in the middle, and shallow at the back. After planting the lotus root, when the standing leaves appear, maintain a shallow water layer of 4-7 cm to increase soil temperature and promote sprouting. As the stems and leaves grow vigorously, gradually deepen the water layer to 12-15 cm. After the terminal leaves appear, the plant begins to form lotus root, and the water layer is gradually lowered to a depth of 4-7 cm to promote lotus root formation.
In the early growth stage of shallow-water lotus root, weeds such as pondweed, needle spikerush, dwarf arrowhead, and triangular bulrush, as well as four-leaf clover and black algae, are abundant in the field and can affect lotus root growth, so they should be removed promptly. When the standing leaves of lotus root rise 30 cm above the water surface, use 100 mL of 50% Wei Luosheng emulsifiable concentrate and 5 kg of urea mixed with 5 kg of fine soil, and broadcast it in the field when the dew has dried. When applying the pesticide, maintain the water depth of the lotus root field at 7-10 cm and keep the water layer for more than 1 week; the residual effect can last more than 1 month. Alternatively, use 40 mL of 12.5% Gallant or 35% Jingwenshade, add 40-50 kg of water, and spray it on the weed leaf surfaces when the dew has dried. After 4 days, most grass-family weeds at the 3-4 leaf stage will be killed.
