Promotion of high-quality upland rice Dian 604 in Benggu Township, Xichou, Wenshan, shows clear results

In 2007, Benggu Township in Xichou County actively "optimized" the grain planting structure, making the promotion of the high-quality upland rice "Dian 604" an important part of agricultural technology extension and vigorously implementing it, achieving clear results. In Benggu, Muzhe and other villages of the township, a total of 300 mu of "Dian 604" was planted.

Compared with local conventional upland rice varieties, the upland rice variety "Dian 604" has good grain quality and taste, an average yield of more than 300 kg, strong resistance and high yield, with an average yield per mu more than 80 kg higher than ordinary upland rice varieties. This variety was introduced in 2001 by Teacher Zhou Chengqing of Yunnan Agricultural University and trial-planted on 1.1 mu in Changjing, Benggu. The trial succeeded in one go that year, and later the demonstration planting area was expanded year by year, allowing it to be promoted. This year, proceeding from the reality that the whole township has only 2,000 mu of paddy fields, and in order to do its utmost to solve the difficulty of eating rice in mountainous areas, the township vigorously promoted the planting of upland rice "Dian 604" and achieved clear results. The main measures taken were as follows: First, seed reserves were prepared in advance to ensure the seed needed this year. During last year's rice harvest, agricultural technicians went deep into villages and fields to guide farmers in removing impurities and inferior seeds and in purification and rejuvenation, ensuring the improved seed needed this year; second, publicity, training and guidance on planting and management techniques were carried out well, and sowing was done on schedule to ensure a bumper harvest. At present, the stage of management focused mainly on intertillage weeding and pesticide application for pest and disease control has been reached, and the seedlings are growing well.
