Introduction to the Mianshu No. 6 Sweet Potato Variety and Its Cultivation Points
(1) Variety origin: Mianshu No. 6 was developed by the Mianyang Institute of Agricultural Sciences in 1991 through sexual hybridization using Xushu 18 as the female parent and 83-1229 as the male parent, followed by multiple generations of selection.
(2) Characteristics: Mianshu No. 6 is a starch-processing type variety. The top leaves are green, heart-shaped with shallow single notches: the plant type is prostrate, with long vines and medium vine thickness. There are 3-5 basal branches. The tubers are spindle-shaped, with purple skin and white or slightly purple flesh, smooth skin, and medium eating quality when cooked. The drying rate is 32.23%, and the starch extraction rate is 19.75%. It has good sprouting ability, concentrated tuber formation, 3-5 tubers per plant, and a rate of large and medium tubers above 88%. It is resistant to black spot disease and suitable for storage.
(3) Yield performance: In the two-year provincial regional trial from 1997 to 1998, the average fresh tuber yield per mu was 1895.4 kg, a decrease of 0.2% compared with the control Nanshu 88; the vine and leaf yield per mu was 1506.1 kg, an increase of 0.7%; the dry tuber yield per mu was 611.1 kg, an increase of 10%. The starch yield per mu was 362.8 kg, an increase of 28.5%. In the 1999 production trial, the average fresh tuber yield per mu was 1488.6 kg, an increase of 73% compared with the control Nanshu 88; the vine and leaf yield per mu was 1839.5 kg, a decrease of 5.8%; the dry tuber yield per mu was 451.9 kg, an increase of 16.3%; the starch yield per mu was 270.9 kg, an increase of 22.03%.
(4) Cultivation points: Same as general growing varieties. Avoid planting in low-lying waterlogged land.
(5) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in the main sweet potato areas of Sichuan. It is most suitable for soils above the second terrace, and concentrated planting is best in areas with sweet potato starch processing.
