Mengmai 35 is a new wheat variety with high yield, good quality, drought resistance, disease resistance, strong stress tolerance, undemanding cultivation requirements and a wide range of adaptation. In three years of autonomous-region-level approval trials, its average unit yield was 150.2 kg, an increase of more than 18.5% over the controls Mengxuan 1 and Mengmai 34. In two years of autonomous-region-level production demonstrations, it outyielded the control Neimai 21 by 72.6%, a clear margin of increase. This variety has tall stalks, large spikes and late maturity; when sown thinly on dry flatland, it produces about 70 grains per spike, with the largest spike reaching 145 grains. The grains are plump, white and glossy. Its cultivation requirements are undemanding; it can be grown on hillside land and dry flatland alike, and it has a wide range of adaptation. According to tests by the Grain Quality Testing Center of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, all indicators meet or exceed the national standard for quality weak-gluten wheat. It has become the only wheat variety in Inner Mongolia for special-purpose flour for quality cakes and biscuits.
