In the second half of this month, our province will remain dry with little rain, and relevant experts advise promptly irrigating wheat fields in drought-affected areas to minimize the reduction in the summer grain harvest. In early May, temperatures in most parts of our province were on the high side, and precipitation continued to be below normal. Varying degrees of drought disaster occurred in Linzhou, Puyang, Lushi, Luanchuan, Yichuan, Xuchang, Xiangcheng, Shangqiu and other places, and soil moisture was lost relatively quickly, which had a certain adverse impact on the grain filling of winter wheat and the sowing of spring-sown crops and seedling growth. The meteorological department forecasts that by May 18, except for some local areas in northern Henan, eastern Henan and southern Henan where soil moisture is suitable, most other areas across the province will experience relatively severe drought, with relative soil humidity mostly below 45%. At present, wheat in our province has successively entered the milk-ripe stage, and suitable soil moisture is beneficial to wheat growth at this stage. Drought-affected areas should irrigate in a timely manner, but the irrigation amount should not be too large, so as to prevent wheat lodging from affecting yield. Based on the current crop growth conditions in various places, soil moisture and future weather forecasts, meteorological experts suggest: areas with moderate or above drought should irrigate in a timely manner to extend the wheat grain-filling period; all localities should also do a good job in preventing and controlling dry hot winds to provide good conditions for the formation of wheat grain weight. Where conditions permit, growth regulators such as potassium dihydrogen phosphate or "BN" can be used for foliar spraying of wheat to prevent and reduce the harm caused by dry hot winds or high-temperature weather.
