Key Technical Points for Standardized High-Yield Cultivation of Schisandra chinensis

Schisandra chinensis is a medicinal plant of significant economic value in the Changbai Mountain region. Due to years of damage from human factors, wild resources have been greatly reduced, and reliance on wild resources is far from sufficient to meet the growing demand of the traditional Chinese medicinal materials market, pharmaceutical and processing enterprises. It is imperative to carry out research on domesticating wild plants for cultivation and move toward cultivation. Based on a large number of experimental studies, this achievement for the first time proposes a complete set of high-yield cultivation techniques for Schisandra chinensis, with seedling raising, orchard establishment, training and pruning, soil management, and pest and disease control as the main contents, enabling Schisandra chinensis under artificial cultivation

Based on a large number of experimental studies, this achievement for the first time proposes a complete set of high-yield cultivation techniques for Schisandra chinensis, with seedling raising, orchard establishment, training and pruning, soil management, and pest and disease control as the main contents, enabling Schisandra chinensis under artificial cultivation conditions to reach an average yield of 150 kg of berries per mu in three-year-old orchards, 400 kg in four-year-old orchards, and 600 kg in orchards five years and older, achieving the goals of high quality, high yield, and stable yield. A total of 150 superior germplasm resources were collected and preserved, and evaluation research was conducted on the main breeding traits of Schisandra chinensis. The first new Schisandra chinensis cultivar in China, "Hongzhenzhu" (Red Pearl), was bred; a total of 3 products, including Schisandra berry wine and beverages, were developed, and their processing techniques were proposed.

The completion of this project has laid a good foundation for Jilin Province to carry out pollution-free standardized cultivation and new product development of Schisandra chinensis in the modernization of traditional Chinese medicine. Since 1997, the results of this project have been extended over an area of 6,200 mu, including 1,900 mu of artificial cultivation area and 4,300 mu of wild protection area; the fruit wine brewing technology has been applied and extended in Longfeng Township of Jiaohe City and Quanyang Forestry Bureau in Jilin Province, with cumulative output value of 28.148 million yuan and profits and taxes of 18.800 million yuan, showing significant economic and social benefits.
