Bang Green Eggplant
Bang Green Eggplant is a new high-yield, high-quality, disease-resistant long green eggplant cultivar bred under the leadership of Zheng Fan, a researcher at the Horticulture Research Institute of the Liaoning Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and is deeply favored by producers, distributors and consumers. In August 2001, this cultivar passed expert appraisal organized by the Liaoning Provincial Seed Bureau and was approved for development and promotion.
Characteristics: This cultivar is upright in type, with strong plant growth vigor and lush stems and leaves; plant height is 75 cm and spread is 76 cm. Both the stems and leaf veins are green, the leaves are large and thick, and the leaf margins are wavy. The flowers are purple. The fruit is long club-shaped, 20 cm long and 5.5 cm in diameter. The skin is oil-green and glossy, and the fruit tip is slightly pointed. The flesh is white, soft and tender, sweet in taste and excellent in quality, with a single fruit weight of 250 g. It has strong resistance to diseases such as Verticillium wilt and Phytophthora fruit rot. The period from sowing to the first harvest of marketable fruit is about 112 days, making it a medium-early maturing cultivar.
Yield performance: Test results show that it has good high-yield and stable-yield performance, with an average yield per 667 sq m reaching as high as 5000 kg, an increase of 34.5% and 44.9% respectively compared with its paternal and maternal parents. Because it comes to market early and has good commercial traits, @#@136@#@ the price is high; the wholesale price for early-market produce is 1.10 yuan per kg, 1.2 times higher than that of ordinary cultivars, giving fairly considerable economic benefits.
Cultivation points: Choose plots with good water and fertilizer retention, fertile soil, flat terrain and convenient irrigation and drainage for planting; generally it is not suitable for continuous cropping or successive cropping. Keep about 3000 plants per 667 sq m. Before transplanting, apply 5000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure and 20 kg of diammonium phosphate per 667 sq m as base fertilizer; during the growing period, topdress, irrigate, spray and weed in a timely manner, and pay attention to drainage and waterlogging prevention during the rainy season.
Suitable areas: Bang Green Eggplant has strong adaptability and can be used for open-field cultivation or protected cultivation in most areas of China. It has now been trial-planted and demonstrated on 66.7 hectares in various places, all with good performance.
