Xingguang Fuqiu Eggplant is an eggplant variety suitable for cultivation in summer and autumn
Xingguang Fuqiu Eggplant was developed by the Jiangsu Nanjing Xingguang Vegetable Research Institute. It is a mid-early maturing variety with long, thick club-shaped fruit and ink-black skin, generally about 30 cm long and about 8 cm thick, with a single fruit weight reaching up to more than 500 g. It has good market quality, strong disease resistance and adaptability, and is especially tolerant of heat, moisture, aging, and storage and transport. Because its benefits are extremely notable during the off-season for summer and autumn vegetable supply, it was named Xingguang Fuqiu Eggplant.
Sow at the proper time and stagger the harvest for market. In the Yangtze River basin region, Xingguang Fuqiu Eggplant can be sown in batches from mid-to-late September of the previous year to early July of the current year, with staggered harvests for market. Those sown in September can be marketed around the Spring Festival of the following year until early May; those sown from January to February are marketed from early June to September; for open-field cultivation in summer and autumn, sowing can be done from mid-to-late March to early July, and they are marketed successively from mid-to-late June to before the first frost in early November, with the peak supply period from August to October. Therefore, Xingguang Fuqiu Eggplant can be planted year-round.
Grow strong seedlings. In rainy and high-temperature seasons, shade nets can be used for seedling raising. Seeds without coating should be treated before sowing. The sowing rate is about 60 g per 10 sq m, and the seedling age is about 50 days. The seedlings for transplanting should be thick and strong, with about 10 true leaves, dark green leaf color, stem thickness of 0.6 cm, well-developed roots, and no pests or diseases.
Transplant reasonably. Before planting, apply heavy basal fertilizer, use deep furrows and high beds, and it is suitable to plant about 2500 plants per mu.
Strengthen field management. From after planting to before flowering, cultivate and earth up to prevent lodging and facilitate drainage. When the first fruit sets flowers, control water appropriately; at the early fruiting stage, keep the soil moist and topdress with water and fertilizer in time to promote fruit swelling.
Do a good job of plant adjustment. This variety has vigorous growth. After the second branching, remove the side buds born from the main stem below the flower to the leaf axils, and remove them after fruiting.
Timely prevent and control pests and diseases. The main diseases of eggplant include: phytophthora blight, brown spot disease, etc. In addition to cleaning the field, promptly removing diseased leaves, diseased plants, and diseased fruits, and implementing crop rotation, soak the seeds in 75°C warm water before sowing.
