Approval status: upon review, this variety meets the national rice variety approval standards and has passed approval, with the number National Approved Rice 2004020

Characteristics: this variety is an indica three-line hybrid rice. When grown as single-season mid-season rice in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, the average whole growth period is 138.1 days, 4.8 days later maturing than the control Shanyou 63. Plant height 117.5 cm, moderate plant type, thick stems, uniform population, luxuriant growth, and average color change at maturity. The number of effective panicles per mu is 179,000 panicles, panicle length 22.3 cm, total grains per panicle 142.7 grains, seed setting rate 79.6%, and 1000-grain weight 29.0 g. Resistance: rice blast grade 7, bacterial blight grade 3, brown planthopper grade 9. Main rice quality indicators: head rice rate 60.9%, length-to-width ratio 2.6, chalkiness rate 70%, chalkiness degree 11.4%, gel consistency 68 mm, and amylose content 20.6%.

Yield performance: in 2002, it participated in the regional trial of the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River mid-season indica late-maturing high-yield group, with an average yield of 602.71 kg per mu, 8.7% higher than the control Shanyou 63 (extremely significant); in 2003, in the continued trial, the average yield was 525.06 kg per mu, 6.78% higher than the control Shanyou 63 (extremely significant); the two-year regional trial average yield was 561.11 kg per mu, 7.73% higher than the control Shanyou 63. In 2003, the production trial average yield was 497.45 kg per mu, 5.45% higher than the control Shanyou 63.

Cultivation points:

1. Cultivate strong seedlings: sow at the same time as Shanyou 63 according to local planting habits, with a sowing rate of 7-10 kg per mu and a seedling age of 35-40 days;

2. Transplanting: transplant 13,000-16,000 hills per mu, with 2 grain seedlings per hill, and 80,000-100,000 basic seedlings per mu;

3. Fertilizer and water management: apply 10 kg pure nitrogen, 15-20 kg superphosphate, and 7.5-10 kg potassium chloride per mu, with heavy basal fertilizer and early topdressing, and less flower-preserving fertilizer applied later according to seedling condition; water management should use shallow water and frequent irrigation, alternating dry and wet conditions in the later stage, and never cut off water too early, so as to ensure full grain filling;

4. Pest and disease control: pay attention to controlling rice blast.

Suitable areas: this variety matures relatively late, has high yield, is susceptible to rice blast, moderately resistant to bacterial blight, and has average rice quality. It is suitable for planting as single-season mid-season rice in Fujian, Jiangxi, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangsu in the Yangtze River basin (excluding the Wuling Mountain area), as well as in southern Henan in areas with light occurrence of rice blast.
