Detailed Explanation of Practical Key Techniques for Schisandra Seedling Cultivation
Seed treatment: In early September, select plants that show early fruit coloring, tightly arranged berries, and long spikes with large berries, as seed collection trees, and collect mature berries from the middle and lower parts of Schisandra as seeds. Soak in clean water for 2-3 days, then rub off the pulp, float away the shriveled seeds, scoop out the seeds and drain the water, place in a ventilated place to dry in the shade, soak the seeds in early January, after absorbing water for 48 hours, scoop them out and air-dry, mix with snow at a ratio of 1:3 and stir thoroughly and evenly, then place in a shaded outdoor area for frozen storage. Calculate the sowing period well, take the seeds out half a month before sowing, keep them at room temperature with a certain humidity for germination promotion; after about a week, about 60% of the seeds will have split open, and then they can be sown.
In early May, sow the treated seeds in spots on the prepared seedbed at a plant and row spacing of 5*20 cm, with 2-3 seeds per hole, cover with 2 cm of fine soil, press once with a wooden roller, and water thoroughly once; to prevent soil-borne diseases, spray an 800-fold solution of amobam along with watering. Cover the seedbed with pine needles (larch), and spread the pine needles to a thickness such that the ground is not visible when viewed from above but is visible when viewed from the side.
Two weeks before emergence, weeds on the seedbed can be removed with a 200-fold solution of glyphosate; when the emergence rate reaches above 50%, a shade shed should be set up, and when the seedlings grow to more than 5 cm, remove the shade net. After emergence, for grass weeds such as crabgrass, barnyardgrass, and foxtail, selective herbicides such as haloxyfop-R-methyl, quizalofop-p-ethyl, and sethoxydim can be used for removal. During the seedling stage, apply urea at 15 kg/mu and diammonium at 20 kg/mu, divided into two applications.
