How to control rice thrips? Control methods and technical key points

(1) Life habits: The rice thrips is very small, with adults only 1 mm to 1.5 mm long, dark brown. In winter, adults overwinter in gramineous weeds and on wheat crops. During the seedling-raising period of the following year, when the seedlings grow to 2 to 3 leaves, they fly into the seedling fields to lay eggs and reproduce. The insect body is small and very active, able to fly and jump. Adults are attracted to green, and after the seedlings are transplanted, they enter the tillering stage when food is abundant, which facilitates massive egg-laying and reproduction, damaging the heart leaves and young tender tissues. The insect body is small and very active, able to fly and jump. Adults are attracted to green, and after the seedlings are transplanted, they enter the tillering stage when food is abundant, which facilitates massive egg-laying and reproduction, damaging the heart leaves and young tender tissues. In the early stage of leaf damage, small white spots appear, and the upper part of the leaf tip curls inward, causing the rice seedlings to grow slowly, and tillering to decrease or stop. When the damage is severe, the seedlings wither and die.

(2) Control methods:

As with the control of other pests, sufficient basal fertilizer should be applied to seedling fields and main fields, and formula fertilization or new humic acid compound fertilizer should be used to control the normal growth of seedlings and rice plants, making them strong but not overly lush, so as to inhibit adult egg-laying and reduce damage. Pesticide control: apply pesticide once at the 3 to 4 leaf stage of seedlings and once 7 to 10 days before transplanting. Use 75 ml to 100 ml of 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate per mu, add 50 kg of water and spray; or 75 ml of 20% triazophos emulsifiable concentrate, add 50 kg of water and spray; or 1000 to 1500 times dilution of 50% malathion emulsifiable concentrate; or 200 g to 250 g of 25% bisultap, add 50 kg of water and spray.

Rice thrips damages the female parent seedlings used for hybrid rice seed production. In severe cases, it delays the development of the female parent, causing the flowering periods of the male and female parents not to coincide. The most effective control measure is to apply 2 kg of carbofuran per mu during the last harrowing of the seedling field, and then sow. With this treatment, the seedling stage can be protected from damage.
