Jiahua No. 1 is a semi-dwarf, dense-panicle rice variety, with a plant height of about 90 cm, thick stems, a compact plant type, tolerance to fertilizer and resistance to lodging, medium tillering ability, large panicles and many grains, a high seed-setting rate, and a clean and attractive appearance in the later stage. In the regional trials, the average effective panicles per mu were 221,000, the total number of grains per panicle was 124, and the 1,000-grain weight was 25.8 g. In 2002, according to identification by the Institute of Plant Protection of the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the average grade of leaf blast was 1, the average grade of panicle blast was 3, the loss rate from panicle blast was 5.6%, and the average grade of bacterial blight was 7. The appearance of the rice grain is crystal-clear and translucent, and the cooking and eating quality is good. Tests showed that 9 of the 12 quality indicators reached the ministerial first-class high-quality rice standard.
