Key Field Management Techniques for Dry Pinellia (Ban Xia) Planted in Winter
After the Chinese medicinal herb dry Pinellia is planted in early winter, it enters the winter management stage. If overwintering management is poor, it will directly affect its yield and quality. Therefore, strengthening its winter management is very important. Based on production experience, growers should do the following four things during the overwintering period of dry Pinellia:
Check the seed tubers. Normally, dry Pinellia tubers begin to take root and sprout about half a month after planting. Sometimes low temperatures cause tuber rot, so the growth of seed tubers should be checked in time. For spots where sprouts have still not emerged, use your hands or a bamboo strip or wooden stick to gently push the soil aside. Any seed tubers that have not rooted or whose rootlets are yellow-black are inferior seeds and should be dug out and replanted in time.
Prevent waterlogging and drought. If continuous rainy weather occurs in winter, the soil is prone to waterlogging and oxygen deficiency, which is not only unfavorable for dry Pinellia tubers to take root underground, but also causes disease and rot. Therefore, at this time, attention should be paid to clearing ditches and draining water so that the water dries up after the rain stops. If drought occurs in winter, the tubers will dry up and shrink. Affecting underground growth, furrow irrigation can be used to irrigate, allowing water to seep through the furrows and moisten the soil, and after irrigation, drain the water from the furrows in time.
Clear weeds. One month after planting dry Pinellia, take advantage of sunny days to carry out intertillage and loosen the soil, and remove perennial weeds in time. Weeding should mainly be done by hoeing or pulling weeds to prevent damage to the tubers. For plots with severe weeds, choose a sunny day and use 800-1000 grams of 10% glyphosate per mu mixed with 60 kg of water for spray control; alternatively, use 150-250 ml of 20% gramoxone aqueous solution per mu mixed with 50 kg of water for uniform spray control.
Apply farmyard manure. Adding farmyard manure to the planting site can not only increase fertilizer efficiency and promote tuber growth, but also preserve heat and moisture. Therefore, in severe cold, use 2500-3000 kg of decomposed pig and cattle pen manure per mu, plus 50 kg of decomposed cake fertilizer or 75 kg of plant ash, and evenly spread it between the rows on the bed surface for overwintering.
