Introduction to the Large-Fruited Horn Pepper "Qianchuanzi" Variety
Qianchuanzi hot pepper is a new variety bred by the Lihu Vegetable Research Institute of Linquan County, Anhui Province, using foreign parent lines through three-line hybrid breeding, with outstanding high yield, large fruit, premium quality, disaster resistance, and disease resistance. Its three greatest advantages are:
First, the variety's performance: early-to-mid maturing, vigorous growth, 4-5 branches, each branch bearing 20-30 peppers, generally 100 peppers per plant, with a maximum of over 150. It has strong continuous fruit-setting ability, with particularly dense fruit set in the mid-to-late stage, bending every branch down; if not strictly tied with rope, the branches will break under the weight. Its fruit-setting period and harvest period are extremely long; sown in spring, it continues to bear fruit until November, with a harvest period of up to 200 days. The fruit is dark green, 18-20 cm long, 3.5 cm in transverse diameter, with a single fruit weight of about 70 g, and large fruits over 95 g. A single plant generally bears 2.5 kg of peppers, and exceptional plants can bear 5 kg. The yield per mu is about 7000 kg.
Second, first-class market quality, taking the lead among similar varieties: the skin is dark green, smooth, attractive, not curved, and wrinkle-free; the flesh is 35 mm thick, high in firmness, and resistant to long-distance transport; the flesh has high water content, and the fruit does not soften the day after picking, staying as fresh as when first harvested; it is spicy in taste and highly marketable.
Third, strong disaster resistance and disease resistance, with strong adaptability, suitable for planting in all pepper-growing regions nationwide: highly resistant to bacterial wilt, Phytophthora blight, and viral diseases; extremely heat-tolerant, able to flower and set fruit normally at a high temperature of 38°C, and able to survive 100 consecutive days of rainy and adverse weather without disease or plant death, bearing peppers as usual and continuing until the first hard frost, still achieving a yield of 10,000 jin per mu.
Cultivation key points: plant about 2500 plants per mu.
