In the 1998-1999 season, Yumai 68 took part in the Henan Provincial late-sowing early-maturing group production trial; the average yield of the 5 trial sites in the southern section was 296.88 kg per mu, an increase of 4.83% over the control variety Yumai 18, ranking first; the average yield of the 6 sites in the northern section was 437.65 kg per mu, an increase of 5.06% over the control variety Yumai 18, ranking second. In the 1999-2000 season it continued to take part in this trial; the average yield of the 11 trial sites was 444.5 kg per mu, an increase of 6.42% over the control variety Yumai 18, ranking first.

Yumai 68 has excellent quality. According to the analysis results from samples sent to the Grain Quality Supervision and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture in Beijing in 1999 and 2000, all index items exceeded the national standards for high-quality wheat, and among the 9 high-quality wheat varieties submitted for testing in 2000, Yumai 68 ranked first with a score of 91.6.

Yumai 68 applied for plant variety protection in 2000, and this was gazetted in July 2001. In November 2001 it won the title of "China International Agricultural @#@119@#@ Famous Brand Product", and is the only variety among the strong-gluten high-quality wheats approved in Henan Province to receive this honor; in the same year it was made a project of the first batch of agricultural science and technology achievement transformation funds by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 2002, at the "China International Agricultural Product Deep Processing --- Food Industry Achievement Exhibition and Development Seminar", it was designated a high-quality raw material variety.
