Introduction to the Chuanmai 29 Wheat Variety and Key Cultivation Techniques
(Former code 90-10931) Approved in Sichuan in 1997. Cumulative promotion of 2.9 million mu.
(1) Variety origin: Bred by the Crop Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1987 through hybridization and selection of Tai2874 x 7781-1-2 - K4 x 305.
(2) Characteristics: This variety is spring-type and early-maturing, with a green coleoptile, semi-erect seedlings, and vigorous growth. Plant height is 80-90 cm, with a compact plant type, medium tillering ability, a high spike-bearing rate, and good yellowing at maturity. The whole growth period is about 190 days, comparable to the control 80-8. The spikes have white glumes and long awns, with 36-40 grains per spike. The grains have red coats and are semi-hard, with a 1000-grain weight of 44-48 g, a grain protein content of 13.5%, a wet gluten content of 26.4%, a flour yield of 70-72%, and a test weight of 771.8 g/L. It is moderately resistant to stripe rust, highly susceptible to leaf rust, susceptible to powdery mildew, and moderately susceptible to Fusarium head blight.
(3) Yield performance: In the two-year provincial regional trial from 1994 to 1995, the average yield per mu was 331.8 kg, an increase of 1.4% over the control 80-8. In the 1995 production trial, the average yield per mu was 372.1 kg, an increase of 11.7% over the control 80-8. This variety shows high yield under high fertility and stable yield under low fertility, and grows well on the second and third terrace soils of hilly areas.
(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in hilly areas within the province, especially in the wheat regions of central-southern Sichuan and central-northern Sichuan.
