Variety source: a mid-early maturing variety bred by the Tieling Academy of Agricultural Sciences.

Approval status: approved and named by the provincial crop variety approval committee in 1999.

Awards: won the first prize of the Tieling Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award in 2003.

Characteristics: the plant has relatively strong growth vigor, dark green branches and leaves, robust growth, and a compact plant type, with a plant height of 50-60 cm and a plant spread of 35-45 cm. The first flower is borne at the 8th-10th node; the fruit is long lantern-shaped, with a fruit length of 8-10 cm, a fruit width of 7-8 cm, a flesh thickness of about 0.4 cm, and a single fruit weight of 100-150 g. The fruit surface is smooth, and the fruit color is green and glossy, crisp in texture, rich in flavor, pungent and numbing, beautiful in appearance, good in flavor, and good in marketability. It has strong stress resistance and cold resistance, is heat tolerant, and resistant to viral diseases. It is mid-early maturing, taking about 110 days from sowing to the marketable pepper harvest. It has high yield; in production trials the highest yield per mu was 5037.3 kg. It has good continuous fruit setting and is suitable for cultivation in greenhouses, large, medium and small tunnels, and under plastic film mulch.

Cultivation key points

1. Raising strong seedlings: for early spring cultivation under plastic film mulch, the seedling age is 70-75 days; in protected cultivation: for the autumn-winter crop the seedling age is 45-50 days, for the winter-spring crop the seedling age is 70-80 days, and for the early spring crop about 100 days. 70-80% bud formation is required.

2. Reasonable close planting: in greenhouses, plant about 3500 hills per mu (two plants per hill); under plastic film mulch, plant about 4000 hills per mu (two plants per hill).

3. Fertilization: because Tiejiao No.1 has a long harvest period, organic fertilizer must be increased, applying more than 5000 kg of high-quality organic fertilizer per mu and 30 kg of compound fertilizer; during the full fruit stage, strengthen topdressing and irrigation.

4. Management: after transplanting, management should focus on protecting seedlings and promoting growth, so that the plants close the rows as early as possible, preventing direct sunlight on the ground during high-temperature periods, and draining promptly during continuous rainy days; weeds should be removed in time and aphids controlled.
