Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Yumai 5 Wheat Variety
This variety was bred by the Chengdu Institute of Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, from the cross 14133 x 10927 through four years and seven generations of selection. It became a stable line in 1990, and was introduced, purified and propagated by the Chongqing Institute of Crops in 1991. In the 1997 and 1998 municipal trials, the average yield was 290.19 kg per mu, 5.89% higher than the control Mianyang 26. In the 1999 production trial, the average yield was 256.9 kg per mu, 6.8% higher than Mianyang 26. It passed variety approval in Chongqing in 1999.
This variety has stable traits, is spring-type and early-maturing, with a whole growth period of about 180 days. The seedlings are upright, the leaves are light green, and the plants are uniform. The plant height is 87.9 cm. The spike is rectangular, with white glumes and long awns. The spikes are large and have many grains, with 43-48 grains per spike and a 1000-grain weight of 43 g. The grains are white and spindle-shaped, with good color change and yellowing, and are easy to thresh. It is highly resistant to stripe rust, moderately resistant to powdery mildew, and highly susceptible to scab. Crude protein is 16.3%, and wet gluten is 34.8%, superior to the control Mianyang 26.
Main cultivation techniques: 1. The best sowing period is November 5-15. 2. Use small-hole, sparse-plant dense planting, with about 110,000-120,000 basic seedlings per mu and 140,000-150,000 productive spikes per mu. 3. Apply fertilizer with emphasis on the base and early topdressing, mainly nitrogen fertilizer, using 12 kg of urea per mu, with nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium applied in combination, and topdressing at the three-leaf stage. 4. After emergence, at the two-leaf-one-heart stage, apply a chemical herbicide once for weed control. 5. In the later stage, pay attention to controlling aphids.
