Introduction to the Wanshu No. 1 Sweet Potato Variety and Key Cultivation Techniques
(1) Variety origin: Developed by the Wanxian City Agricultural Science Institute through sexual hybridization in 1991, using Nanshu 95 as the female parent and Nonglin No. 10 as the male parent; the original line number was 9102-1.
(2) Characteristics: This variety is dual-purpose for feed and food. It has good sprouting ability, a dry matter rate of the tubers above 27%, and a starch extraction rate above 14%; the proportion of large and medium tubers is about 90%, the eating quality after cooking is average, and its resistance to black spot disease and storage quality are superior to Nanshu 88.
(3) Yield performance: This line participated in the Sichuan Province sweet potato regional trial from 1994-1995. Over two years and 16 site-times, the average fresh tuber yield per mu was 1994.7 kg, vine and leaf yield 1689.5 kg, and dried tuber yield 532.2 kg; biological fresh yield 3684.2 kg, biological dry yield 763.3 kg, and starch 282.1 kg, which were respectively 3.4% higher, 41.1% higher, 3.5% lower, 17.9% higher, 9.3% higher, and 5.9% lower than the control Nanshu 88; in the 1996 production trial at 5 sites, the average fresh tuber yield per mu was 1161.7 kg, vine and leaf yield 1353.0 kg, biological fresh yield 2513.0 kg, and biological dry yield 465.9 kg, which were respectively 4.6%, 33.5%, 18.2%, and 9.2% higher than Nanshu 88.
(4) Suitable planting areas: Suitable for planting in plots with good fertilizer and water conditions throughout the province.
