Detailed introduction to the new late japonica rice variety Xiushui 217
Xiushui 217 was approved in March 2003 at the 27th variety approval meeting of the Provincial Crop Variety Approval Committee. In the 2000 provincial regional trial, this variety had an average yield of 428.63 kg per mu, 0.14% less than the control Xiushui 63 (not significant); in the 2001 provincial regional trial, the average yield was 509.54 kg per mu, 11.30% more than the control Xiushui 63 (reaching an extremely significant level); the two-year average yield was 5.28% higher than the control Xiushui 63. The two-year average whole growth period was 136.4 days, 2.8 days longer than the control Xiushui 63. In the 2002 production trial, the average yield was 433 kg per mu, 0.37% less than the control Xiushui 63. The two-year provincial regional trial average was 207,000 effective panicles per mu, 90.8 filled grains per panicle, 89.9% seed-setting rate, and 28 g 1000-grain weight. According to the appraisal results of the Institute of Plant Protection, Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, it is moderately resistant to rice blast, bacterial leaf blight and bacterial leaf streak, and susceptible to brown planthopper and white-backed planthopper; according to analysis by the Rice and Rice Products Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, the brown rice rate, milled rice rate, head rice rate, grain length, length-to-width ratio, alkali spreading value, gel consistency and amylose content meet the ministerial first-grade edible high-quality rice standard, and the chalkiness degree and transparency meet the ministerial second-grade edible high-quality rice standard. This variety has a moderately compact plant type, slightly weak tillering ability but larger panicles, good yielding ability, a moderate whole growth period, rice quality significantly better than Xiushui 63, and resistance to rice blast and bacterial leaf streak better than Xiushui 63. It is suitable for continuous late-season cultivation throughout the province.
Key cultivation techniques:
1. Sow at the right time and cultivate strong seedlings. The suitable sowing period for continuous cropping late rice is June 25. The seed rate is 5 kg per mu of main field, and 35 kg per mu in the seedling field. Apply weaning fertilizer and lifting fertilizer well in the seedling field, and the seedling age should not exceed 35 days.
2. Reasonable close planting. The spacing of 5 x 3-4 cun and 3-4 seedlings per hill may be used. Even planting and shallow transplanting are required, and as the transplanting date is delayed, the number of basic seedlings should be increased accordingly.
3. Fertilizer and water management. On the basis of applying sufficient base fertilizer and early tillering fertilizer, apply panicle fertilizer appropriately according to the seedlings and field conditions, so as to increase the number of effective panicles and grains per panicle. The total amount of fertilizer applied should be controlled at 55-60 dan of standard fertilizer, and potassium fertilizer should also be applied. Do a good job of protecting seedlings with deep water and promoting tillering with shallow water. After full heading, especially pay attention to alternating wet and dry conditions to help reduce empty grains and increase weight, and improve rice quality.
4. Pest and disease control. According to the disease and insect forecasts of local plant protection departments, pay attention to the prevention of pests and diseases such as stem borers, leaf rollers, planthoppers, sheath blight and rice false smut.
