Have you ever heard of a rice nutrient solution that people can drink? The fruit enzyme made by Liang Yingfen of Wuchang City, Heilongjiang Province, is drinkable by people. She used her homemade nutrient solution to replace rice foliar fertilizer, and the organic rice she produced was praised by experts for its high nutritional value.

Liang Yingfen is a Korean ethnic farmer from Minle Township, Wuchang City. A rice blast disease in 2004 nearly wiped out all 6 mu of rice in her family. After many years of working with rice, Liang Yingfen realized that continuing to use chemical fertilizers and pesticides was very dangerous. The soil was getting poorer the more it was farmed, crop diseases and pests were increasing, and especially the residues of chemical fertilizers and pesticides caused people to suffer from all kinds of strange diseases one after another. So she came up with the idea of producing organic rice.

In 2006, Liang Yingfen trial-planted 1.8 mu of organic rice, and the results were good. In 2007, she planted all 5.5 hectares of her family's land with organic rice. To add nutrients to the rice, she put to use the fruit enzyme and other production techniques she had learned from a Korean professor at a training class in earlier years. She bought apples, pears and other raw materials to make fruit enzyme; she also used Chinese herbal medicine to make herbal nutrient agents; she soaked eggshells in vinegar to increase calcium; and she used wild vegetables, carrots and celery to make plant green juice, and so on.

When soaking seeds, she diluted Chinese herbal medicine and other nutrient agents by 500-1000 times to soak the seeds. When raising seedlings, she diluted the various homemade nutrient agents by 500 times and sprayed them on the rice seedling beds 3 times in succession. After transplanting, she sprayed the leaf surfaces 4 times during the rice's greening, tillering, booting and maturity stages. This made the rice drink fruit juice, take "calcium tablets" and soak in Chinese herbal medicine, meeting the nutrients needed for rice growth. In addition, to protect soil microorganisms, Liang Yingfen also collected and propagated soil microorganisms.

To ensure stable and high rice yields, Liang Yingfen selected the improved variety "Daohuaxiang No. 2", applied enzyme organic fertilizer, adopted the new ultra-sparse planting technique for rice, and made her own rice nutrient agents. As a result, total rice output reached 80,000 jin. The relevant department took the rice produced by Liang Yingfen for testing, and the test results shocked the experts: calcium content was 7.6 mg per 100 g, nearly double that of the control, and vitamin E was 0.4 mg per 100 g, 3 times higher than the control. "We still have such good rice!" the experts blurted out.

In 2007, Liang Yingfen's rice had a bumper harvest. As soon as the 80,000 jin of rice was harvested, it was all purchased by a company at 2.80 yuan per kg, for income of 110,000 yuan, averaging 3,000 yuan more per hectare than ordinary rice. This organic rice produced by Liang Yingfen is called "ecological rice" by the villagers.
