Introduction to the Yumai No. 9 Wheat Variety and Its Cultivation Key Points

Characteristics: This variety has stable traits, is spring-type and early-maturing, with a whole growth period of 180 days, comparable to Mianyang 26; it has strong tillering ability and vigorous growth; plant height is 83 cm, the spike is conical with long awns, averaging 37 grains per spike, white grains, vitreous, 1000-grain weight 43.4 g, good color change and yellowing, easy threshing.

Disease resistance identification by the Institute of Plant Protection, Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences: moderately resistant to moderately susceptible to stripe rust; in municipal trials it showed high resistance to powdery mildew and slight susceptibility to fusarium head blight.

Test results from the Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center for Cereal and Products Quality, Ministry of Agriculture (Harbin): crude protein 13.4%, wet gluten 31.4%, sedimentation value 23.5 ml, water absorption 64.0%, stability time 3.0 min, maximum resistance to extension 210 E.U, area 48.6 cm2, belonging to the medium-gluten type @#@245@#@.

Yield Performance: In the 2001-2002 Chongqing municipal wheat regional trials, this combination achieved a two-year average yield of 260.1 kg per mu, an increase of 6.26% over the control Mianyang 26; in the 2003 production trial, the average yield was 289.1 kg per mu, an increase of 11.4% over the control Mianyang 26, showing good production performance.

Cultivation Key Points: 1. Sow from November 1-10; both hole sowing and drill sowing are acceptable; seeding rate 6-7.5 kg per mu; for sole cropping, row and hole spacing 23.3 x 16.7 cm; for relay intercropping, bed width 100 cm: 3 rows of wheat with a wheat strip width of 60 cm, or bed width 200 cm: 5 rows of wheat with a wheat strip width of 120 cm. 2. Fertilization: apply nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in a balanced formula; apply 8-10 kg of pure nitrogen, 15-20 kg of pure phosphorus and 5 kg of pure potassium per mu; apply heavy basal fertilizer and early topdressing, with 80% as basal fertilizer and 20% as topdressing, and apply the topdressing when wheat seedlings have two leaves and one heart. 3. Field management: for dry fields, open ditches for drainage; after sowing and before the three-leaf stage, apply a chemical herbicide once for weed control; during the heading stage, pay attention to controlling stripe rust, fusarium head blight and aphids.
