Introduction to the Nanshu 99 Sweet Potato Variety and Key Cultivation Techniques

Nanshu 99, bred by the Nanchong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, is a dual-purpose sweet potato for food and feed. Its young leaves are green with brown edges, and its mature leaves are green; both are pointed heart-shaped and medium in size, with purple veins and vein bases. The plant type is prostrate, the vines are green and medium in length, and it has no natural flowering habit. It produces 3-5 basal branches and 3-5 storage roots per plant. The storage roots are long spindle-shaped, with purplish-red skin and pale yellow flesh. It sets roots early, uniformly and in a concentrated manner, is easy to harvest, and has a rate of large and medium storage roots above 90%. It sprouts early and uniformly, has good sprouting ability, and moderate seedling vigor. The drying rate is 28.13-29.67%, the starch rate is 13.8-15.44%, and 100 grams of fresh storage roots contain 34.3 mg of vitamin C and 4.6 g of soluble sugar. The crude protein content of the vines and leaves is 2.51%. When cooked, it has a relatively strong aroma, is sweet, and has few fibers. It is moderately resistant to black rot and has strong tolerance to drought, poor soil, and fertilizer, and stores well. This variety is suitable for planting as a spring and summer sweet potato in the sweet potato regions of the Yangtze River Basin.
