Introduction to the Yumai 49 wheat variety, originally named Wenmai No. 6

Variety source: selected from a mutant single plant of Wen 2540.

Characteristics: semi-winter type, plant height about 80 cm. Long awns, white glumes, white grains, spindle-shaped spike, 1000-grain weight about 37 g. Medium maturity, strong lodging resistance, moderately susceptible to stripe rust, stem rust, powdery mildew and sheath blight, highly susceptible to leaf rust and fusarium head blight. Test weight 779 g/L, protein content 16.2%, wet gluten content 35.6%, sedimentation value 41.6 mL, water absorption 56.88%, stability time 5.8 minutes. In 1997, it participated in the national winter water group regional trial for the southern Huang-Huai region, with an average yield of 465.2 kg per mu, 1.58% lower than the control Yumai 21; in 1998, it participated in the national winter water group regional trial for the southern Huang-Huai region, with 19 trial sites, of which 15 showed increased yield and 4 showed decreased yield, with an average yield of 353.3 kg per mu, 6.97% higher than the control; in 1999, the trial continued, with 15 trial sites, of which 13 showed increased yield and 2 showed decreased yield, with an average yield of 452.2 kg per mu, 9.68% higher than the control. The 3-year average yield was 423.6 kg per mu, 5.02% higher than the control. In 1999, production trials were also conducted at 5 sites in Henan and Anhui, all showing increased yield, with an average yield of 461.7 kg per mu, 10.84% higher than the control.

Cultivation points: the suitable sowing period is October 3-13. Apply sufficient base fertilizer, sow with adequate soil moisture, sow precisely, with a sowing rate of about 5 kg/mu, which can be appropriately reduced under high water and fertility conditions, and apply heavy jointing fertilizer. Suitable range: high water and fertility early-stubble fields with a yield of 450-550 kg per mu in Jiangsu, Henan, Anhui and Shaanxi in the southern part of the Huang-Huai winter wheat region.
