Therefore, breeding new Codonopsis pilosula varieties that are suitable for cultivation in the main production areas, have distinctive characteristics, stable traits, broad pest and disease resistance, strong stress resistance, good yield performance, and quality meeting the standards specified in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia is an important measure to promote the sustainable development of the local economy. Gansu Codonopsis pilosula new line 92-02 is a new Codonopsis pilosula line bred by the Dingxi Dryland Agriculture Center from 1992 to 2004 using the mass selection method according to procedures. This line has green stems, and its corolla is pale yellow-green with purple spots. It has strong growth vigor, stress resistance, and disease resistance, good comprehensive agronomic traits, high and stable yield, and quality meeting the standards specified in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. This research result passed provincial-level appraisal and acceptance in July 2004, reaching the domestic advanced level.

Economic Benefits: For Gansu Codonopsis pilosula new line 92-02, through measures such as holding technical training courses, on-site observation and learning, printing and distributing technical materials, and strengthening promotion efforts, a cumulative area of 10,790 hm2 was promoted from 2001 to 2004, with a total increase in fresh Codonopsis pilosula of 13.7853 million kg and a total new net income of 30.0305 million yuan. It is predicted that this line has broad prospects for application and promotion in production. If the application period is calculated as 10 years, with an annual promotion area of 16,700 hm2 and an increase rate estimated at 16%, it can increase dried Codonopsis pilosula by 10,000 t per year, with a cumulative total increase of 100,000 t of dried Codonopsis pilosula and a total increased output value of 210 million yuan.
