Introduction to the Characteristics and Traits of the Fengjiao No. 1 Pepper Variety
Main traits: an early-maturing variety. Plant height 58 cm, spread 55 cm-60 cm, first flower node at the 9th-10th node. The fruit is thick horn-shaped, with a smooth surface, dark green, mildly spicy flavor; ripe fruit is bright red, fruit length 13 cm-16 cm, fruit diameter 4.0 cm-4.5 cm, flesh thickness 0.35 cm, average single fruit weight 100 g. Highly resistant to viral diseases and other diseases, with steady growth and extremely strong fruit-setting ability. For late-autumn cultivation, yield is about 2000 kg per mu; for early-spring cultivation, yield is about 4000 kg per mu.
Cultivation points: In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, for early-maturing protected cultivation, raise seedlings in a cold bed from late October to early November, or use electric heating wire for rapid seedling raising from late November to early December; transplant with flower buds in mid-February to mid-to-late March of the following year, planting about 4000 plants per mu. For low-tunnel cultivation, transplant from late March to early April; for open-field cultivation, transplant in mid-April, planting 3800 plants per mu. Apply heavy base fertilizer and frequent topdressing. To ensure high and stable yield, it is best not to retain the first fruit (the gate pepper), so as to keep the plant vigorous and not declining. Pay attention to pest and disease control, harvest in time, and promote fruit setting and growth.
This variety performs especially well in late-autumn delayed cultivation, with strong single-round fruit-setting ability; a single plant can set 12-20 fruits, and red-ripe fruits remain on the plant for a long time. It is storage- and transport-tolerant. In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, sow in mid-to-late July, begin harvesting in mid-to-late November, and continue harvesting until after the Spring Festival, with considerable economic benefits.
