How to Return Rice Straw to the Field? A Detailed Guide to Five Practical Techniques
1. Short-cut rice straw incorporation by plowing technique. Cut the rice straw by hand or machine into lengths of 15-20 cm, and spread it evenly over the paddy field. Generally, the amount of dry rice straw spread per mu is 200-250 kg; if early rice straw is used for return, the amount spread per mu of main field is 1/2 or 2/3 of the total rice straw per mu. After the rice straw is spread, on the basis of the original fertilizer amount, apply an additional 8-12 kg of ammonium bicarbonate or 5-6 kg of urea per mu as base fertilizer; if it is a cold-waterlogged field, apply 15-25 kg of lime per mu in combination to accelerate the softening and rotting of the rice straw. Finally, plow and bury the rice straw, maintaining a 3-5 cm deep water layer for 5-6 days.
2. Short-cut rice straw incorporation by plowing plus biological decomposition acceleration technique. Cut the rice straw by hand or machine into lengths of 15-20 cm, and spread 200-250 kg of dry rice straw evenly per mu; if early rice straw is used for return, the application rate per mu of main field is 1/2 or 2/3 of the total rice straw per mu; then evenly spread 15-20 kg of fine soil mixed with 1-2 kg of straw-decomposing agent per mu, and at the same time, on the basis of the original fertilizer amount, apply an additional 8-12 kg of ammonium bicarbonate or 5-6 kg of urea per mu of main field as base fertilizer. After plowing, maintain a 2-3 cm deep water layer in the field for 5-8 days.
3. Decomposition-promoter composting and rotting rice straw return technique. Soak the dry rice straw thoroughly in water so that its moisture content reaches 60%-70%, and for every 1000 kg of dry rice straw, spray layer by layer 1.5 kg of decomposition promoter (dissolved in 100 kg of water; the same applies to the following agents), or 2 kg of straw-decomposing agent, or 1 kg of 301 microbial agent plus 5 kg of urine and manure. The method is: layer the soaked rice straw (each layer about 10 cm thick), press it firmly, and spray the above liquid layer by layer, building a trapezoidal compost pile about 2-2.5 m long, 1.5 m wide, and 1.5 m high. Seal the surface of the pile tightly with mud (cover with plastic film in winter) for fermentation; generally, after 8-15 days in summer and 15-25 days in winter, it will be completely rotted and ready for use.
4. Enzyme bacteria rice straw composting and return technique. First soak the dry rice straw thoroughly in water so that its moisture content reaches 60%-70%, and compost according to the formula of 1000 kg of dry rice straw, 50 kg of rice bran, and 5 kg of enzyme bacteria. The specific method is: spread the soaked rice straw on the ground to a thickness of 10-15 cm, then evenly sprinkle the enzyme bacteria and rice bran over the rice straw, stacking and pressing layer by layer in this way, and finally build a trapezoidal compost pile about 2-2.5 m long, 1.5 m wide, and 1.5 m high. Then seal the surface of the pile tightly with mud (cover with plastic film in winter) for fermentation. Generally, it will be rotted in 10-15 days in summer and 20-25 days in winter.
5. Rice straw mulching and return technique. It is mainly used for dry crops such as fruit trees and vegetables. The method is to cover dry or water-soaked rice straw between the rows and on the beds of the crops, generally 2-3 cm thick; if possible, it is best to cover the rice straw with a layer of fine soil. This method is simple and has good drought-prevention effects. It should be noted that: when mulching rice straw during the seedling stage of crops, the thickness should be controlled to avoid affecting seedling growth; before mulching field crops, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied to avoid fertilizer deficiency in the later stage of crop growth.
