Approved in Sichuan Province in 1997. Cumulative promotion of 567.6 mu.
(1) Variety source: Bred by the Crop Research Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1988 by crossing Mianfen No. 1 as the female parent and Chaoshou No. 1 as the male parent; the original line number was 8810-1.
(2) Characteristics: This variety is medium-maturing with short vines and a prostrate plant type. The top leaves are purple, and mature leaves are heart-shaped, green with purple; the storage roots are spindle-shaped or blocky, with light red or yellow skin and yellow-red flesh with a purple tinge. The average drying rate is 26.9%, the starch extraction rate is 14.9%, and the rate of large and medium storage roots is over 80%. It has good cooked food quality, good sprouting ability, and better resistance to black spot disease and storage performance than the control Nanshu 88. It is a new sweet potato variety for both feed and food use.
(3) Yield performance: This variety has high fresh storage root yield. In the two-year provincial regional trial from 1994 to 1995, the average fresh storage root yield across 16 site-times was 2224.9 kg per mu, an increase of 15.4% over the control Nanshu 88 (increasing at every site); dry storage roots were 589.3 kg, an increase of 6.9%; fresh biomass yield was 3216.9 kg, an increase of 2.2%; dry biomass yield was 708.3 kg, an increase of 1.5%; starch was 331.7 kg, an increase of 10.7%; vines and leaves were 992.0 kg, a decrease of 18.7%. In the 1996 provincial production trial at 5 sites, the average fresh storage root yield per mu was 1533.9 kg, an increase of 14.6% over the control Nanshu 88 (increasing at every trial site); dry storage roots were 411.5 kg, an increase of 7.2%; fresh biomass yield was 2512.4 kg, a decrease of 7.4%; dry biomass yield was 528.9 kg, a decrease of 3.6%; starch was 220.7 kg, an increase of 10.5%; vines and leaves were 978.5 kg, a decrease of 28.9%.
