Biological characteristics: The plant is about 30 cm tall, with slender roots and many branches, sometimes locally swollen into spindle-shaped small fleshy tuberous roots, and it has stolons; the leaves are broad and narrow in type, leathery, with golden-yellow leaf margins, and the inner side of the margin has vertical stripes alternating between silvery white and emerald green, densely clustered in basal rosettes; the flowers are red-purple, in clusters of four to five borne in the bracts, arranged in slender racemes up to 8-16 cm long; the flowering season is summer and autumn, and the flower stems are 30-90 cm long, usually rising above the leaf clump; the seeds are spherical, green at first and black when mature. Variegated Liriope prefers shady and moist conditions, avoids direct sunlight exposure, and is relatively cold-tolerant; it is suitable for growing in shady places under trees, or at the edge of lawns, or around water features, and is not choosy about soil, but moist and fertile loam is most suitable for its growth; the leaves do not wither in winter, new leaves sprout in mid-April, the flowering period is long, flower stems are continuously produced from late June to early September, and the seeds mature in mid-September. For potting soil, dried and finely crushed fish pond mud mixed with some garden soil is most ideal.

Application value: Because of its golden-yellow leaf margins, Variegated Liriope is more cherished by flower enthusiasts than ordinary Liriope spicata. Variegated Liriope is a rare new and superior colorful-leaf groundcover plant for gardens in both northern and southern China that stays evergreen through all four seasons and is drought-tolerant, can be enjoyed for both foliage and flowers, and can be planted in the ground or in pots. It is an excellent colorful-leaf groundcover plant for bordering woodland edges, lawns, water features, rockeries, and terraces in modern landscape gardens.
