Xindao No. 17 was bred by the Grain Crops Institute of the ** Academy of Agricultural Sciences and was approved and named by the Autonomous Region Variety Approval Committee in 2007.

I. Characteristics and Traits

1. Characteristics

Compact plant type, erect leaves, strong tillering ability, plant height 91.5 cm, panicle length 18.53 cm, total grains per panicle 139.4, empty grain rate 14.4%, 1000-grain weight about 24.6 g.

2. Growth Period

Sown in early April, transplanted in early May, heads out at the end of July, matures in early September, with a total growth period of about 150 days, belonging to a medium-late maturing variety.

3. Stress Resistance

Resistant to rice blast, with tough stems and resistance to lodging.

4. Grain Quality

Brown rice rate 80.5%, milled rice rate 74.4%, head rice rate 53.3%, chalkiness 17, chalkiness degree 1.4%. It has good eating quality and taste, and excellent grain quality.

II. Yield Performance

680-700 kg per 667 sq m, and up to 730 kg in high-yield fields.

III. Cultivation Key Points

1. Seedling Raising

Before sowing, soak seeds with Shibaike or 402 fungicide for 5 days to prevent bakanae disease. After soaking, the seeds can be directly germinated without rinsing with clean water. When 80% of the seeds have broken through the hull and sprouted, spread them out to dry until they are not sticky to the touch, and then they can be sown. Sow 110-115 g of dry seed per tray (machine-transplanting seedling tray). After emergence, ventilate and harden the seedlings upon seeing green to prevent excessive seedling growth under high temperature and the occurrence of damping-off.

2. Transplanting

On the basis of cultivating strong seedlings, transplant in early to mid-May, with a plant-row spacing of 28 x 10-12 cm, about 20,000 hills per 667 sq m, and 5-6 plants per hill, ensuring no missing hills and no missing seedlings.

3. Fertilization

Apply sufficient basal fertilizer, with 20 kg of diammonium phosphate, 5-8 kg of potassium fertilizer, and 10 kg of silicon fertilizer per 667 sq m. After seedling recovery and at the beginning of tillering, apply 5 kg and 10 kg of urea per 667 sq m respectively; at the peak tillering stage, apply 15 kg of urea per 667 sq m; after heading, fertilize according to seedling condition, generally 3-5 kg per 667 sq m. Apply 30-35 kg of urea throughout the whole growth period.

4. Management

After transplanting, deepen the water to protect the seedlings. After greening, use shallow-water irrigation to raise soil temperature and promote tillering. At other stages, adopt alternating dry and wet irrigation. Do not drain water too early before harvest to prevent premature senescence.

5. Harvesting

Harvest when 85% of the field has turned yellow and ripe.

IV. Suitable Planting Areas

Suitable for planting in Changji, Ili, Shihezi, Kuitun, Korla and other areas.
