Zhengmai 005 is a nationally approved wheat variety (formerly known as Zhengmai 005).

Characteristics: weak vernalization type, medium maturity, maturity 1 day later than the control Yumai 18. Seedlings semi-prostrate, strong tillering ability, dark green leaf color, narrow leaves. Plant height 80 cm, plant type slightly loose, spike layer neat, flag leaf narrow and long, upright. Average 440,000 spikes per mu, 30 grains per spike, 1000-grain weight 38 g. Spike spindle-shaped, long awns, white glumes, white grains, vitreous kernels. Lodging resistance average, winter cold hardiness medium, resistance to late spring cold slightly weak, waterlogging tolerance average, maturity appearance medium. Inoculation disease resistance identification: slow stripe rust, moderately susceptible to powdery mildew and stem rust, highly susceptible to leaf rust, sheath blight and fusarium head blight. In 2003/2004 mixed samples were tested respectively: test weight 804/780 g/L, protein content 15.26/15.4%, wet gluten content 33.5/33.3%, sedimentation value 56.7/46.8 ml, water absorption 57.8/58.8%, dough stability time 9.2/5.6 minutes, maximum resistance to extension 472/364 E.U, extensibility area 118/87 sq cm.

Yield performance: In the 2002-2003 season, participated in the spring water group regional trial in the southern part of the Huang-Huai winter wheat zone, average yield 449.0 kg per mu, an increase of 2.8% over the control Yumai 18 (not significant); in the 2003-2004 season continued the trial, average yield 515.8 kg per mu, an increase of 3.6% over the high-yield control Yumai 18 (not significant), and an increase of 0.7% over the high-quality strong-gluten control Yumai 34-6 (not significant); in the 2003-2004 season production trial average yield 460.8 kg per mu, an increase of 2.4% over the control Yumai 18.

Key cultivation techniques: suitable sowing period October 10-25, suitable basic seedlings 120,000-150,000 seedlings per mu, pay attention to controlling the population to prevent lodging. Fertilization and irrigation: generally apply 3-4 cubic meters of farmyard manure per mu, 12-15 kg urea, 20-25 kg diammonium phosphate, 6-10 kg potassium sulfate, apply 5-10 kg urea per mu as topdressing from jointing to booting stage, and spray urea on the leaves at the early grain-filling stage.
