Key Cultivation Techniques for the Rice-Rice-Oilseed Rape Triple Cropping System
No-Till Direct Seeding Technique for Oilseed Rape in Paddy Fields
The no-till direct seeding technique for oilseed rape in paddy fields is a cultivation method in which oilseed rape is sown directly without plowing after the previous rice crop is harvested. This technique features full utilization of temperature and light resources, improved land utilization rate, reduced labor intensity, and significant economic benefits. Based on demonstration planting results, this technique is suitable for large-scale promotion in our county.
I. Four Major Advantages of No-Till Direct Seeding of Oilseed Rape:
1. Labor-saving and cost-saving. For one mu of paddy field, the labor required for ditching, fertilizing, sowing, and pesticide application is only 2-3 working days; the cost of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides does not exceed 100 yuan
2. High yield and high efficiency. Direct-seeded oilseed rape achieves high yields through a large number of plants and main panicles, relying on the main inflorescence and primary branches for high yield. Last winter, the Quantangzi Agricultural Technology Station in our county planted more than 280 mu of contiguous direct-seeded oilseed rape. According to yield measurement by experts from the Municipal Agriculture Bureau and cost-benefit accounting, the yield per mu was 150-200 kg, and the net income reached 550-700 yuan/mu. On May 27, the Grain and Oil Station conducted an on-site investigation. In Luojia Group, Shangquan Village, Ye Shaohua's family had 2.4 mu at a medium level, producing 62.5 kg of rapeseed, averaging 260 kg per mu.
3. Simple operation and easy to master.
4. Beneficial for improving soil and promoting high yields of rice and oilseed rape. Implementing paddy-upland rotation can improve soil aggregate structure. The roots, stems, leaves, and seed cake of oilseed rape can fertilize the field, increase soil organic matter, and lay a good foundation for high yields of early rice.
II. Key Techniques for High-Yield Cultivation of No-Till Oilseed Rape
(I) Pre-Sowing Preparation
1. Select paddy fields with good drainage conditions and relatively fertile soil.
2. Dig ditches and prepare beds. After rice harvest, dig the surrounding ditch, waist ditch, and bed ditch well, ensuring all ditches are connected, clear the ditches and drain water, and use carbendazim or jinggangmycin to control sclerotinia rot, downy mildew, etc.
(II) Timely Harvest. Oilseed rape can be harvested when two-thirds of the siliques turn yellow and the seeds at the base of the main inflorescence turn black.
III. Key Cultivation Points for the Early Rice - Late Rice - Oilseed Rape Rotation:
1. Variety Selection
For early rice, use medium- and late-maturing varieties first, such as Xiangzaoxian No. 29, Jinyou 974, Jinyou 402, Weiyou 402, etc. For late rice, select Jinyou 207, Fengyuan 299, T You 207, etc.
2. Field seeding rate: 3-4 kg/mu for conventional rice, 1.5-2 kg/mu for hybrid rice.
3. Seedling raising method: adopt tray-free dry seedling throwing or soft tray seedling throwing technique.
4. Sowing time: sow around Qingming.
5. Transplanting time: after oilseed rape harvest, generally transplant before May 10; ensure basic seedlings: 80,000-100,000 basic seedlings per mu for conventional rice, 60,000-80,000 basic seedlings per mu for hybrid rice.
6. Apply topdressing early: 5-7 days after transplanting, apply urea at 7-8 kg/mu to promote early and rapid growth of seedlings and quickly build a high-yield plant framework.
