Introduction to the Over-Summer Hot Pepper Variety Baojiao No. 3
This variety is a mid-to-late maturing variety, with a medium-to-large plant shape and medium pungency. The fruit is about 20 cm long, about 3.5 cm in diameter, and weighs 60-80 g per fruit, with large fruits exceeding 90 g. The fruit color is dark green and glossy, the flesh is thick and firm, straight and not curved, and it is extremely tolerant of long-distance transport. Five days after harvest, the fruits do not soften, do not change color, do not deform, and remain as fresh as when first picked. Its fruiting capacity in the mid-to-late stage is especially strong, with a single plant able to bear about 80 large fruits at the same time, and at most more than 100. Moreover, there is no difference in fruit size among the early, middle and late stages. The average yield is about 5000 kg per mu, and the high yield is more than 6500 kg. It performs extremely well in disaster resistance and high-temperature resistance, and can still flower and set fruit normally when summer temperatures reach 38°C. In the summer of 2005, more than 130 consecutive days of heavy rain in the Jianghuai region caused the groundwater level to be less than one chi from the ground. All corn, soybean and sesame yields dropped by 80%, while Baojiao No. 3 rf1 showed a good growth momentum of not getting diseased and not dying, and in the mid-to-late stage it still bore abundant fruits, with every branch full of fruits, and the yield per mu still exceeded 5000 kg. Therefore, this variety can grow normally in the hot and rainy summer season, and its disaster resistance and waterlogging tolerance are unmatched by similar varieties.
Cultivation points: This variety is most suitable for over-summer cultivation, as it comes to market in autumn, when prices are high and returns are good. For general cultivation after wheat, seedlings should be raised in early to mid-June, and field transplanting should be carried out when the seedlings have 9-10 true leaves, with attention to water and fertilizer management after planting. Before planting, apply 60 kg of NPK compound fertilizer per mu as base fertilizer, use 50-60 g of seed per mu, and set about 3300 plants per mu.
