Introduction and Characteristics of the Kendao No. 9 Rice Variety
Yield performance: In the 1998-1999 regional trials, the average yield was 7415.3 kg per hectare, an average increase of 18.0% over the control variety Heijing No. 5; in the 2000 production trial, the average yield was 6869.0 kg per hectare, an average increase of 14.2% over the control variety Heijing No. 5.
Characteristics: japonica rice, with a growth period of about 126 days and requiring an active accumulated temperature of 2393°C. Plant height 86.5 cm, panicle length 16.1 cm, about 95 grains per panicle, 1000-grain weight 28.1 g. In 1999-2000, by artificial inoculation, seedling blast was grade 5-6, leaf blast grade 5, and neck blast grade 9; under natural infection, seedling blast was grade 3-6, leaf blast grade 3-5, and neck blast grade 7. Brown rice rate 82.9%, milled rice rate 74.6%, head rice rate 71.7%, length-to-width ratio 1.7, chalkiness size 10.8%, chalky grain rate 8%, chalkiness degree 0.8%, alkali spreading value grade 7, gel consistency 59.3 mm, amylose content 18.31%, crude protein content 7.93%.
Cultivation points: Dry-raised sparse planting cultivation, with transplanting spacing of 30 x 10-12 cm and 3-4 plants per hill. Pot-raised and tray-raised transplanting is best to promote tillering and ensure panicle number. It has relatively strong fertilizer tolerance and is suitable for cultivation under medium fertility conditions. In years when sheath rot and brown spot occur severely, attention should be paid to disease prevention; use 5 kg of carbendazim, 1.5 kg of rice vinegar, and 1.0 kg of potassium dihydrogen phosphate per hectare, add 150 kg of water, and spray to prevent brown discolored grains.
Adapted region: Transplanted cultivation in the fourth accumulated temperature zone of Heilongjiang Province.
