Variety name: Guijiao No. 5

Breeding institution: Vegetable Research Center, Guangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences

Variety origin: The female parent CP1-08 is a self-inbred line developed from "Quanzhou pepper" through 6 generations of selfing. The male parent A18 is a self-inbred line developed from "Thai pepper" from the Asian Vegetable Research and Development Center in Thailand through 6 generations of selfing.

Characteristics: In winter and spring, it takes about 150 days from sowing to the first harvest of green mature fruit; in summer and autumn, it takes about 60 days to 70 days from sowing to the first harvest of green mature fruit. The plant has medium growth vigor, white petals, and sets fruit easily. In the mid-fruiting stage, the plant is relatively upright, 70 cm tall, with a plant spread of 100 cm x 78 cm, stem diameter 1.5 cm, leaf length 10.5 cm and width 5.3 cm, and green leaf color. The fruit is of the goat horn type, fruit length 16.5 cm to 22.5 cm, average fruit shoulder width 2.9 cm, flesh thickness 0.2 cm to 0.3 cm, 2 locules, and average single fruit weight 41.2 g. The green mature fruit skin is light green (light yellow under sufficient light), the mature fruit skin is red, the fruit skin is glossy, and it is mildly pungent.

Yield performance: From 2004 to 2006, production trial demonstrations were carried out in Hepu and other places, with a general yield of 2400 to 2800 kg per mu.

Key cultivation techniques: Plant spacing and row spacing 50 cm x 50 cm, about 2000 plants per mu; promptly remove side branches below the first fork of the plant. If the plant is rather small, the first flower on the main stem may be removed. Once the flowering and fruiting stage begins, promptly remove sprouting branches in the middle of the plant and old leaves and diseased leaves in the lower part of the plant. Apply a quick-acting fertilizer after each fruit harvest. During the flowering and fruiting period, to ensure fewer dropped flowers and more fruit set, a water solution of 0.1% boric acid plus 0.1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate, or natural Huangjia brassin and capsaicin, can be used as a foliar topdressing, sprayed once at the early flowering stage and about once every 7 days at the full flowering stage, for a total of 3 to 5 times. Using shade netting during the summer growing period gives a better shading effect. Pay attention to preventing root diseases and viral diseases.

Approval opinion: Upon review, this variety has considerable application value in production, has passed approval, and may be planted according to local conditions.
