Wanlixiang pepper is an excellent hot pepper variety developed by Known-You Seed Co. of Taiwan, China. Cultivated in the hot and rainy South China region, it shows good stress resistance and is welcomed by farmers for its outstanding high yield and storability. Its characteristics and key cultivation points are introduced below.

I. Characteristics and traits

This variety has vigorous plant growth and strong resistance to viral diseases, Fusarium wilt, powdery mildew, etc. The plant height is 60-65 cm, and the plant spread can reach 60 cm. The fruit is about 15 cm long, 1.5 cm in transverse diameter, with an average single fruit weight of 17 g. The fruit shape is straight and smooth, with thick flesh and good storability. The immature fruit is dark green, and the ripe fruit is bright and vivid red, with a strong pungency. From sowing to commercial fruit maturity is 95-100 days, and the average yield is 2200 kg per 667 sq m. Performance is even better under plastic film mulching cultivation, and it is suitable for fresh eating or processing cultivation in various regions.

II. Key cultivation points

1. Raising strong seedlings: In South China, seedlings are generally raised in small arched sheds or greenhouses in mid-January, and transplanted in early to mid-March, with a seedling age of 55-60 days. Raising seedlings in nutrient pots is preferable. During the seedling stage, sufficient light and suitable temperature and humidity should be maintained, with special attention to timely ventilation and dehumidification, as well as to the prevention and control of diseases such as damping-off.

2. Reasonable close planting: In spring, high-ridge cultivation should be adopted, with a ridge width of 1.3 m (including the ditch), planting in double rows, with a plant spacing of 35-40 cm, and 2500-3000 plants per 667 sq m.

3. Strengthening management: First, strictly prune, removing all side branches below the first branch to improve ventilation and light penetration; second, apply fertilizer scientifically. The base fertilizer rate is generally 2000-2500 kg of decomposed chicken manure and 40 kg of superphosphate per 667 sq m. For topdressing, urea is the main fertilizer, supplemented by compound fertilizer. During the flowering and fruiting period, topdressing should be applied frequently. After each 1-2 harvests, apply 6-8 kg of urea or compound fertilizer per 667 sq m, and at the same time spray the leaves with a mixture of 0.2%-0.3% urea and 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Third, in spring and summer when there is a lot of rain, drainage and waterlogging prevention should be carried out in a timely manner; in autumn and winter, attention should be paid to maintaining sufficient moisture; fourth, timely and effective prevention and control of pests and diseases should be carried out to improve pepper quality and yield.

4. Harvest in a timely manner: Generally harvest in the afternoon or before watering, which can prevent the plants from lodging after harvest.
